Hair care products that are great for summer

Summer feels like a loose hair kind of season. Yes, it’s hot and having long hair makes it more complicated, especially on windy days, but there’s something liberating about letting your hair fly in the wind.

I like to have mine above shoulders all the time, but especially in the humid summers here. I’m sure you’re all familiar with that feeling of hair getting stuck to your skin because it’s just so humid out. Ugh, just typing this makes me cringe.

Having shorter hair though does not make it necessarily easier. Well, maybe a little bit… But there’s still the issue of humidity causing frizziness, and then you have the volume, or lack of to be exact, dry hair, buildup, and the list goes on. Add to that the scorching sun, salty or chlorine water, wind, hot tools, and well, one day you wake up with hair in dire need of TLC.

Luckily, I found the products that solve these issues, and the good news is that [most of] these are very affordable.

Only two items on this list are new-to-me, however, I trust the thousands of positive reviews, and hence, can’t wait to try them. The others I have used for years now, and are must-haves for me.

There’s one thing you need to know about me — I’m a loyal person, and when I find something I love, I stick to it, no matter what those things are… Note that this is not a sponsored post and features products I truly use daily/weekly/monthly (other than the two specified below). These products can be found in my bathroom, though I currently need a restock on some. Note that you don’t necessarily need all of them — choose based on what you think will work for your hair.

You’ll notice that most of these products are from the same brand — Hask, one that I’ve used in most cases daily for many years now, and I am happy with the results and price. The brand is cruelty-free and avoids using other ingredients deemed harmful to us and/or the environment. Referred to as Hollywood’s favorite hair care, HASK is used by Hair Stylists on the set of more Films & TV Shows than any other hair care brand.

The others are also by a brand I discovered years ago, and have used ever since. Let’s dive in…

Note: when shopping on Amazon, I recommend buying items sold by the brand itself, or by Amazon, to avoid counterfeits…

  • Hask Argan Repairing Hair Oil. Seriously, if I were to use only one hair product for the rest of my life other than shampoo, it would be this one (or another I’ll touch upon down below). It detangles, smooths, softens, and provides hydration for my hair when it feels dry. I apply 1-2 pumps when detangling, and 2-3 or more if my hair feels dry. Generally, I love and recommend all their hair oils — they’re affordable, smell amazing, and do a really good job.

  • Hask Keratin Protein 5-in-1 Leave-In Conditioner Spray. It smooths my hair and even gives it a bit of volume. Perfect for when my hair needs minimum care — spray, air dry, and done! And yes, I said air-dry — I haven’t used a hair dryer in years, and don’t even own one.

  • Hask Charcoal Clarifying Dry Shampoo. Due to high humidity or stress, sometimes my hair gets oily much sooner. Whenever I notice that happening, I apply this dry shampoo once my hair dries right after I wash it. Apart from keeping it looking fresh, it volumizes and even smooths it out. I’ve used it for years and haven’t had a reason to look for something else.

  • amika The Shield Style anti-humidity spray. This is a new-to-me product that is on my list to try. The “heat-activated, invisible spray keeps hair smooth and frizz-free for over 24 hours. Protects hair up to 450°F/232°C” has me curious and so have the thousands of positive reviews. Note that this is not a hairspray that’s meant to “hold” your style but rather, tame frizzy hair. The only negative that keeps getting mentioned is the bottle having some malfunctions, so I’ll hold off purchasing for now in hopes of the brand figuring that one out… I thought you might want to know that.

  • amika un.done volume & matte texture spray. The other new-to-me product. My hair is fine and lacks texture sometimes, and the reviews ignited my curiosity about trying it. As with the one above, it’s on my list to try.
