Things to do to get yourself into the holiday spirit
Not to put you in panic mode, but Christmas is two weeks away!
I don't know about you, but I’m still not there mentally, and it’s time to do something about it. For this reason, I put together a list of things to do to get me in the holiday mood. If you also need help with that, I hope you can find some ideas. Some are obvious, and some, maybe not so much. Here’s what I came up with (you can do all of them or whatever you like the most):
Have a festive treat.
Burn a holiday candle (or any other favorite one).
Bake holiday cookies.
Simmer some holiday potpourri to make your home smell like the holidays.
Paint your nails red. Try this clean nail polish, this classic one, or this quick-drying one. For a touch of festive, add a layer of glittery nail polish.
It goes without saying, but I’ll add it just in case. Add holiday touches throughout your home, and I don’t just mean a Christmas tree. Go further with a throw blanket, a Christmas-related throw pillow (I also love this one), Christmas towels for your kitchen (how adorable are these customizable ones or this one?), and lanterns (you may also like this one). It will change the “mood of your home”, I promise!
Attend a Christmas Market. They may not be as impressive as the ones in Europe, but they’re still fun! Google Christmas markets for your area and go have a merry time!
Watch holiday movies. We see these movies EVERY SINGLE YEAR, yet, somehow, they never get old. Yes, I’m talking about Home Alone, and Home Alone 2, The Holiday, etc. Check this list of The Best Christmas Movies of all time. I’m positive you’ll be in the holiday mood by the time you're done.
Visit the downtown of your town/city to see its decorations.
Look up drive-thru Christmas Light Shows in your town/city and visit them (this article has a list for every state, in case they’re close to you). If you’re a Tampa Bay local, check this list for light shows in the area.
Try some season-related activities. Does your city do skating on ice? Tree-lightning ceremony? Christmas Lights Parades? Neighborhood cookie exchanges or progressive dinners? Again, a quick Google search might help you find some holiday-related gems. Put yourself out there and have fun!
Listen to holiday music. ChristmasFM remains my favorite as it plays stations from all over the world.
Wear a Christmas sweater.
Donate to Toys for Tots.
Donate Holiday Dinner Baskets or help feed a hungry family.
Have you done any of these? Which one is your favorite?
Happy Holidays!
xoxo, Em
