Postcards from Pompano Beach, Florida
There are a lot of places in Florida that are on our list to visit, with high chances of there being more that we haven’t heard of yet. I have to admit that Pompano Beach was an unknown to me prior to our stay there… after all, there are so many beach towns in this state, that one can’t know them all. And, wow, did I enjoy discovering this one!
In case you haven’t heard of it either, Pompano Beach is just north of Fort Lauderdale, a place you most likely heard of or even visited. Yeah, it’s that popular! But back to our quiet town, because that’s how it felt to us…
I don’t remember a time nor a place where I’ve felt so relaxed in the last two years. That can be very much attributed to the fact that we were in vacation mode there, and away from the mundane. Of course, we can’t overlook the fact that our days were mostly spent on the beach, walking and looking for treasures (I mean shells and corals, what are you thinking about?).
The only thing that was less ideal during our time there was the extreme wind we got “lucky” to have that week — it almost made it impossible to walk on the beach at times, but that was not the town’s fault.
If you’re looking for a laid-back and relaxing destination, try Pompano Beach. It definitely is not as busy as Fort Lauderdale and close enough if you feel like you need to be in the middle of it all, but not at all times.
We didn’t feel like we were lacking anything while there — after all, the purpose was for us to get away from home and relax, and that we did!
As far as food options, we ate several nights at the Deep Oceanfront Restaurant located at The Beachcomber Resort, (1) because we enjoyed the food, (2) because we could just walk there, and (3) because of the atmosphere — live music and being right on the beach made it a relaxing and pleasant experience for us.
Other places we enjoyed were BurgerFi located by the pier, The Taco Joint, and others on that same restaurant strip, however, there are plenty of options in town and by the beach.
Enjoy these photos I captured during our stay there — I hope they bring you just a bit of relaxation...
P.S. We were there in April and the water was relatively warm (about as warm as the ocean water in August in Southern California). There was plenty of algae, as well as Portuguese man o’ war you should keep your eyes out for and steer clear of.
